The MWC Cowl Removal Kit significantly increases engine bay room which aids in spark plug removal, clearance for intake manifolds, access to rear mount distributors, plus helps reduce overall vehicle weight. The sheet metal is supplied in sections to ease installation around cage bay bars and includes a pre-formed flange for windshield urethane. There are two versions of this kit available- the base upper kit that retains the factory firewall and HVAC flange, and the full upper panel kit that works with additional panels for added weight reduction and firewall smoothing.
The base upper kit with no add-on panel options selected in the dropdown leaves the factory HVAC flange in place. It also works with the Midwest Chassis HVAC delete panel (separate panel sold in bolt-in or weld-in versions, available in dropdown options).
The full upper panel kits (Integrated Weld-In HVAC & 2/3 Firewall) remove the HVAC flange area, some material behind the shock tower, and additional material over the trans tunnel area. Both options attach to the upper panel with a pinch-weld style flange that is punched for plug welds so no exposed welds are seen from the front. Below are the two lower panel options:
1) Integrated Weld-In HVAC - covers the area from the outer edge of the passenger side A-pillar area behind the shock tower to the inner edge of the factory HVAC flange.
2) 2/3 firewall- covers same as Integrated Weld-In HVAC plus additional area to within a few inches right of the throttle cable.
Installation notes: A polycarbonate windshield Like the Optic Armor units we offer is required as this modification will remove about 7 inches off the bottom of the glass. We strongly suggest to use an extended length hood and fit it to your body before the windshield is trimmed as there can be a small gaps on the back sides of the cowl scoop if the windshield is trimmed straight across.
