Axle Bearing Stacking Order

When preparing to install Strange axles into your MWC 9" the stacking order of spacers and bearings is critical.  Above is a picture for a 98-02 backing plate with 4CH ABS option.  On 4CH applications the ABS tone ring and adapter must be pressed together as an assembly prior to installation on the axle. The tapered side of the adapter presses into the dished side of the tone ring. The black bearing spacer circled in red must go on after the tone ring is in place, as the I.D. of the tone ring adapter is slightly smaller than the bearing spacer. Be sure to install the backing plates with the e-brake lever side towards the axle splines.

  • Short axle = Driver side (98-02 backing plate is marked with an "L" above the e-brake lever)
  • Long axle = Passenger side (98-02 backing plate is marked with an "R" above the e-brake lever)
